Greyhound Plant Services Contracting and Environmental Engineering: The following notes give an overview of the type of work carried out by Greyhound; from these it will be seen that we have vast experience in our field and use our knowledge and skill to produce quality work, on time and in budget.

Earthworks
As a main contractor we have established
ourselves as a safe and quality focused business with major clients
in the quarry and aggregates industries, as well as with individual developers.
Greyhound Plant Services
staff are active members of a number of institutions and industry bodies
including: CECA; RICS; CIOB; CPA; FCMI; FIHT; CMIOSH; NEBOSH.
As a subcontractor we have an extensive catalogue of completed and current
works in such diverse areas as flood alleviation works, river allignment
schemes, reservoir strengthening works and more.

Landfill
We have established
our position as a main contractor in the Landfill Engineering sector
of business, with several major clients in the Waste Industry. Our scope
of works include, creation of landfill cells, cap works, final restoration & landscaping
works, provision of infrastructure and weighbridge construction and installation.
In addition we have carried out design and construct works on two compost
facilities at landfill sites, incorporating access roads, compost pads
and earth bunds. Greyhound Plant Services
are active members of the I.W.M.

Land Reclamation and Stabilisation
Land Reclamation works (including,
design & build), working with local authorities, the NRA and the
Environment Agency all to
current Environment Agency legislation is a key part of our developing
workload. Greyhound have also, as part of their 'best value' engineering
operation, been involved in schemes where lime and cement stabilisation
processes have been required or specified. Greyhound have used their
knowledge and experience to demonstrate that processing the materials
on site can ensure substantial savings in disposal and import and that
in other circumstances, where stabilisation has been specified, by carefully
selecting and utilising exisiting materials, stabilisation is not required!

Restoration and Remediation
Currently a large percentage of our turnover
is restoration work, either, of old industrial sites or, mineral workings.
As a result we are in a position to provide not only a comprehensive
service, but also the management who are fully familiar with the standards
and methods required by our clients, DEFRA, the EA local authorities etc.
Greyhound have completed a number of landmark schemes
including: Nar Ouse Regeneration for Norfolk County Council (with Birse
Civils Ltd); Bumpers Lane, Chester for Chester City Council - the removal
and treatment of contaminated land including the processing and disposal
of a large stockpile of used tyres; Gibfield Park, Wigan for a private
developer (with John Mowlem) the multi-million pound clean up of a former
colliery and open cast site to provide land for housing and industrial
development.

Roadworks and Drainage
We have undertaken improvement
works from greenfield stage in the roadworks, drainage and car
park sectors of the business, as main contractor and as subcontractor.
Emergency Work
Greyhound mobilised at short notice, as a main contractor to assist
DEFRA in the control and eradication of foot and mouth during the 2001
outbreak. The scope included mobilising plant, equipment, mean and materials
to establish burn sites and burial sites as well as farm cleaning works
and disposal of carcases to rendering plants and landfills. Greyhound were
able to use their knowledge, skill and contacts to mobilise and carry out
over £30m
of work in 6 months, safely and within all the restrictions which were
in place.
Dredging
During the last few years we have undertaken
several projects for the Environment Agency, and other authorities
on dredging, flood defence and sea defence schemes. As a contracting
team we have developed a clear understanding of the clients needs and
engineers specification in this sector of business.
Opencast Works
We are increasingly involved
in quarry works and open cast mining operations and have experience of sole supply with a national contractor, covering the whole of the western region. This has entailed the detailed forward planning
of works and implementation of both these plans and short term, short
notice requirements. We are currently negotiating the follow up project.
Our plant holding is particularly suited to these type of operations.
Greyhound are strong advocates of communicating at all levels to ensure that projects run smoothly and to the benefit of all. Every effort is made to progress proactively to avoid problems and to increase the likelyhood of a successful out come to all projects. Greyhound operate an 'open book' policy with a well documented, auditable paper trail, which has been used on a number of schemes under the EC contract.
Subcontracting
Greyhound have developed strong links with a number of main contractors
in the UK and have carried out work for them over much of Great Britain
in the last few years. These links have developed through mutual trust
and respect and have resulted in many successful projects. Greyhound's
input at initial tender stage, has enabled the teams to develop confidence
in pricing, planning and analysing schemes to the benefit of all; whether
in Early Contractor Involvement (ECIs), tenders or enabling alternative
tenders to be established. This cooperation extends through the actual
site works and to settlement of final account.
